From Casale San Nicola to Fonte San Nicola, Fonte Nera and back.
You cross the village of Casale San Nicola (859 mt.) and climb towards the left. After the last houses, the road becomes a path (number 5) that brings you soon after to Fonte San Nicola, where you can get refreshed with cold, clear and pure water. Above the fountain there’s a series of ceramic tiles from Castelli depicting the legend according to which the Saint puts together and revives 3 young boys who were dismembered and put into vimini baskets.
You continue on the path, that soon after (about 10 min.) brings you to the church of San Nicola where there are also the ruins of the hermitage (1096 mt.) of the Camaldolesi monks. The view of the “Paretone” is very impressive from this vantage point. You than go along the electric company’s water canal, you cross the torrent on a small metal bridge and take the path (number 4v) that easily brings you to Fonte Nera (1060 mt.) after crossing rich vegetation and splendid clearings. You continue on the gravel road that descends to the left (number 6) and after the forest, going past some unused buildings, we return to Casale San Nicola.
