A century long tradition: stories, secrets and love for a land passed on down from father to son, to daughter!
In 1899, Emidio Pepe was a well-known grower in his area for making good wine. Giuseppe took over from him and not even a World War was able to stop him.
In 1964, Emidio Pepe was the first wine grower who bet on the quality of Montepulciano d‘Abruzzo and thus started bottling his so-called ‘black gold’. In 1997, his daughters began to experiment by updating the company’s winemaking techniques whilst remaining faithful to the family more traditional methods.
In 2003, Stefania completed her first three-level biodynamic winery, built at 10mt underground to facilitate the gravity flow of the wine at every stage of its development. The juice flows into different fermenters made of wood to obtain a biodynamic wine; cement for a conventional organic style and stainless steel for a modern organic wine.
‘We do not have technological secret weapons to make good wines’. What makes them so unique and inimitable are:
Passion for living in our 8ha vineyards, where we practise biological dynamic farming methods.
Strength for destalking by hand and treading by foot
Natural fermentation without adding yeasts or sulphur dioxide
A roomy and airy underground winery designed on three levels
The earth that surrounds our aging cellars as a strong and caring as a hug. This is where we store our bottles for up to 5, 10, 20 years.
Hand-bottling unfiltered wine by gravity flow
