From the tourist area of San Giacomo in the township of Valle Castellana, just outside the province of Ascoli Piceno (1100 mt.), on the Gemelli Mountains, you climb through a level of mixed forest. You’ll then come upon one of the many caciare in the area. These are little huts made in rock by the shepherds as a stopping point during the summer months.
Behind, the panorama reveals the Ascensione mountain, above Ascoli Piceno. You continue on, through fields and beech woods, walking up until the Lago di Gabbiano, a small body of water inhabited by the crested triton. Continuing further in the wood you reach the area of Tre Caciare (1430 mt.) from where you descend, taking in the wonderful view of the Sibillini Mountains and the Laga Mountains. The long fields of Costa del Prevosto will then bring you back to San Giacomo, closing the loop.
