The museum stands at the foot of the Venacquaro Valley, within the oldest beech wood of Europe. It is divided into two sections; the documentary section illustrates the evolution of the deer, its environment and living habits, its distribution on the Italian territory and the activities the technicians of the Parco Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga have carried out to reintroduce it within the various environments it had disappeared from 200 years ago.

By reintroducing not only the deer but also the chamois and the roe, the Park is carrying out an ambitious project: to reconstruct the original fauna of the Apennines mountains, which has been destroyed and impoverished by man throughout the centuries. Twenty specimens have been set free on the Monti della Laga and two years later 26 deers have been released in the Chiarino valley.

Thanks to radio-collars the Park staff can constantly monitor the movements, the reproduction and new settlements of the released specimens.

Various finds that have been partly given by the Parco Nazionale D'Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise are exposed inside the museum and several audiovisual devices allow to observe the life of the animals within their environment.

The Museum also aims at exposing children to a new vision of wild fauna which includes the idea of active protection, to the problematic that is of cohabitation of men and animals on a highly populated territory.
